About the Artist – Rita Champagne
From the time she was a little girl, Rita had a creative spark that shone brightly. Yet for much of her life, that creativity was expressed mainly through her bold, funky, and outrageously original sense of style. Life’s challenges and the uncertainty about where to begin kept her from fully exploring her artistic side….until her 60s, when she decided it was now or never.
One of Rita’s lifelong dreams was to become a clothing designer, and she started by painting on what she loved most…..clothing. Shirts, shoes, pants, sweatshirts…..nothing was off-limits.
Her early work was filled with vibrant color, energy, and optimism, though she hadn't quite found her artistic "sweet spot." That all changed when she began experimenting with canvas and wall art.
From her first stroke…. there was no stopping her. Rita became a passionate, prolific painter, exploring every size, shape, and color combination imaginable. Her distinctive style quickly drew the attention of local critics, who compared her vivid, expressive works to the likes of other well-known street artists. Her use of texture and unconventional materials beautifully creates a sense of warmth and love.
For Rita, painting is not only a way to express herself but also a way to connect with others. The true joy comes when someone stops at her booth, lights up with a smile, and feels that same burst of happiness her art embodies. That excitement…..those gleeful reactions….are what fuel Rita's creative journey from one show to the next. Each of her paintings carries a part of her spirit, often paired with small gifts and heartfelt tokens of gratitude.
